This and That on Friday

• I had nothing yesterday and today is not much better. 
• I feel a case of bloggers block coming on. 
• I've written a bunch of crappy stuff that I have no desire to share.
• Our house is officially on the market!
• No plans for the weekend for the first time in weeks!
• I do not have TB
• Still no word on the job interview or the testing session I had last Friday
• Waiting sucks
• I have another job interview on Monday with a different place than I've already interviewed

This and That Thursday

I can't believe it's Thursday already.

The rental house is almost ready to put on the market!  We are meeting the agent on Saturday.  The good news is houses in our neighborhood have been selling!

SWS got all of his graduation stuff yesterday... Cap, gown, announcements and calling cards.  It's all real now!  Gah!

I really need to print his graduation pictures in big sizes, I already have a bunch of wallets.

Even though the job I'm interviewing for tomorrow pays almost nothing, I'm still very excited about it!

Today I'm going to the library to use the computer to take an online Word and Excel test.  We don't have 2007 version and that's what the test requires.

Yesterday I took a data entry and typing test online.  I aced them both!

The garbage collectors in our neighborhood went on strike today.  Will we still be billed for the days they are on strike?  I'm guessing we won't put our garbage out for the replacements to pick up, Handy Man will want to support the union.  Can we still go to the dump?

Saturday, March 27 from 8:30 - 9:30 pm is Earth Hour.  I posted about it last year with suggestions about how to spend an hour with the lights off (hubba hubba!).  This will be the third time I've participated and I encourage all of you to participate and invite others to take part!

What is Earth Hour?  According to the organization’s website:

Earth Hour started in 2007 in Sydney, Australia when 2.2 million homes and businesses turned their lights off for one hour to make their stand against climate change. Only a year later and Earth Hour had become a global sustainability movement with more than 50 million people across 35 countries participating. Global landmarks such as the, Sydney Harbour Bridge, The CN Tower in Toronto, The Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, and Rome’s Colosseum, all stood in darkness, as symbols of hope for a cause that grows more urgent by the hour.

In 2009 hundreds of millions of people around the world showed their support by turning off their lights for one hour.

Earth Hour 2010 will continue to be a global call to action to every individual, every business and every community. A call to stand up, to show leadership and be responsible for our future.

Remember that first interview I had after being laid off?  The one that caused me to really think about my situation and to have this epiphany?  That position is open again.  Yesterday I saw it advertised on Craigslist.  I am so tempted....

For those of you who watch Lost... Do you really think it's possible they will wrap everything up to our satisfaction in the 7 remaining episodes?  Yeah, me either.

I joined a blogger book review site and received my first book to review.  I'm reading it now and will be sharing my thoughts sometime in April.  Stay tuned!

Our renter moved out yesterday.  The house has been turned back over to us.  Handy Man has already spent some time over there replacing doors.  Full on work starts today to prepare for selling; painting, replacing molding, finishing doors, replacing light fixtures, roof and gutter cleaning, refinishing the hardwoods, going to the dump.  I'm tired just thinking about it.  If everything goes as planned it should be on the market in 2 weeks.

I'm going to visit Asthmagirl tonight for a much needed hair color, in preparation for the job interview I have next week!

Interesting or Strange?

Isn't it purdy?  According to the rules of this award, I'm supposed to list 7 interesting things about myself. Interesting?  That might be tough...  How about I go for strange?

At home I like to pee with the bathroom door open.  Don't ask me why.  I'm usually a pretty modest person, so it's baffling why I will go into the bathroom at home and not close the door.  I would never do that at someone else's house, or out in public.

I don't like to read series books unless I read them in the order written, even if it doesn't matter to the story. 

I buy all my clothes used, except undergarments and shoes.  I can buy 3 outfits for under $30, however one pair of shoes usually costs me $100.  I never scrimp on shoes.

I rarely measure anything when I cook, unless it's rice.  Or fluid that makes or breaks the consistency of a dish.  I understand what a pinch, a dash and a dollop are.  That's just how I roll.  Baking is a different matter, it's more scientific so measuring is required, unless it's a crumble...

I watch movies over and over.  If I like a movie I buy it so I can watch it whenever I want.  We have a large movie collection.  When I'm sick I get comfy on the sofa with the DVD remote.  I've been known to watch 4 to 5 movies on one sick day.

Last night I spent 3 hours watching C-Span and the historic vote on health care reform.  I may not like everything in the bill and I have a ton of questions, but I'm really glad it passed and we are taking a step in the right direction.

This next one is truly interesting!  I have job interview on April 2.  I'm pretty darn excited!

This and That Thursday

While doing the dishes this morning I broke my favorite wine glass.  I'm so sad.

Is it possible to "wish-a-way" the monthly visit from Aunt Flo?  She is almost two weeks late!  No, I am NOT pregnant.  Could this be the end of the monthly visit?  Or is the beginning of the big tease?

I really love Chex Mix.  All the salt of potato chips, without all the fat!

While I was away for the weekend scrapbooking Handy Man did the following:

• Treated the hardwood floors making them shiny, slippery and looking brand new
• Scrubbed clean the downstairs bathroom, including the ceiling!
• Kept the house super uber clean

I'm sure he did a bunch of other stuff, but that's the stuff that stood out to me.  I love that man!

My cat has caught two bunnies in the past two days.  Would you like to see?  If you don't like seeing dead bunnies you should probably skip over the photo!

Not only does she catch them, she eats every last bit of them, even the fur.  Gross!  She thinks she's a lioness.

This and That Thursday

All packed up and ready to leave for a weekend of scrapbooking!  This time Dancing Daughter is coming along.  This is her first "women's weekend"... Should be interesting.

The cycles of the woman's body are amazing, but I'm really sick of my cycling.  I want the cycling to stop, I'm done riding the ups and downs caused by the monthly visit from Aunt Flo!  I'm sick of her, she makes me crabby, crampy and tired.  I'm so over her!

I've lost track of how many jobs I've applied for, but I'm guessing it's in the 35 range!  I've heard back from roughly five of them.  What I've heard is, Thank you for applying.  We have received, 200, 700, 1100, (insert super large number here).  We will be sorting through every application (usually meaning the cover letter and resume submitted) and then begin the interview process.  Mostly I hear a lot of this....  *crickets*  Do you hear it?  It's a whole lot of nothing!

I'm really glad to be getting away from the computer for a few days.  I've become obsessed with the job hunt.

Is it possible to develop ADD as a laid off adult?

Oh... I got an application to volunteer at one of the agencies where I applied for a job.

Did you know the library has a great Career section that is full of informative and helpful books.  I checked out five.  I think my reading slump is over.

There are books about surviving a layoff, surviving job hunting, resume writing for every occasion, including when you don't have a 4 year degree, things to say in an interview and so on.  I feel like I found buried treasure!

Discovering that I haven't used any of the words considered to be "vague" in my resume is relieving.  I do need to clean it up a bit though.

I'll be learning how to write a killer cover letter.

The depression that seemed to be bearing down on me has receded a bit.  After doing much research and reading all of your wonderful words of encouragement I'm feeling more hopeful.

I know in this economy it's going to take a while to find a job I really want.  I also understand (a little too late) that I might need to take a job I don't want and continue searching for one I really want.

I can't thank all of you enough for your kind words.  You have helped me more than you know!

This is my 400th post!!  I wish I had something more profound to share today, but I'm empty!

Finished Dexter season 2, can't wait to start season 3!

Another thing I can't wait for is having dinner with my friends tomorrow night, it's been a few months since we've seen each other!

Something happened on Tuesday night that hasn't happened in years... Dancing Daughter came to our room saying she wasn't feeling well.  She actually got in bed with us for a while.  After an hour of none of us being able to sleep I encouraged her to go back to her bed.  She's a lot bigger at 15 than she was at 10!

Both my kids stayed home sick yesterday, Gah!  Both are going back to school today, only to have the next few days off for mid-winter break.

While the east has been buried in snow, we in the west have been having the warmest January on record!  Not good considering Vancouver BC is hosting the winter Olympics!  Need snow for that little event.

I've been reading my current book since the beginning of January.  I don't remember ever taking so long to make it through a novel.

I'm feeling much dread that my phone is staying very silent.  I really want to go on an interview!  I really want to get a job.

The day the rental house is going on the market is getting very close.  The dread over paying two mortgages while I have no job is making me feel sick.

This and That Thursday

Star Wars Son's drama class is performing Cinderella the musical tonight.  Yesterday was the matinee performance for younger kids, when I asked SWS how it went he said "AWFUL"!  I can't tell you how excited I am to see his singing/dancing version of Prince Charming.  If nothing else, it should be entertaining!

I finally got caught up on Lost!  Whoa that show is something else.  Every time I see an episode I'm blown away with the imagination of the creators and writers.

The other day I was happily reading a post by Mrs. G over at The Women's Colony.  I'm not linking to the post because it had a spoiler about Dexter season 4...  I'm still playing catch up in the middle of season 2.  To say the last thing I expected was to find out how season 4 ends while innocently reading about about how Mrs. G lies to herself would be an understatement.  GAH!  Please post spoiler alerts even if the season has been over for a while, you never know who's watching past seasons on Netflix for the first time!

I checked out another Photoshop book from the library.  The more I try to learn the more I think I need to take a class.

I had a big epiphany over the weekend regarding employment and careers.  I'll be sharing it with you soon.

2010 Forecast

*I prepared this post on January 12 before any of this job turmoil hit.  I never did post it because other things came up that I wanted to blog about more.  This morning I was looking over posts I've started to write but never finished and found this one.  All I can say is WOW!!!*

For all you Sagittarians out there here's what you can look forward to in 2010. (From this site)

Pluto has moved out of your sign, and Saturn has left Virgo (which wasn't doing you any favors either, as you may have noticed from the unusual pressures in your home life, and the difficulties you've had getting what you need to feel secure).

Of course, as much as you'd like all of life to match that happy, carefree streak you have, you know it doesn't always work out that way. The big pressures have just moved on and changed form. Fortunately, your reputation for being able to see the bright side of things will generally be justified by these new issues. There will be new challenges to your money supply and how you handle your money, and yet you'll also have new opportunities to correct problems in your material life, and maybe even prosper more than you ever have before.

Work is also going to present new roles and new opportunities, and will also give you chances to shine. And there will also be new demands from your friends and loved ones. But those same issues will help you sort out who is of real value to you, and what your real value is to them too. The hard work that you've sometimes had to put in during the last two years is going to start paying off for you. And for some of you, the rewards will be enormous. Can I hear a "hooray" out there?
