Sing-A-Long Saturday

Rock is my music of choice.  I love rock music, all kinds of rock music, classic rock, punk rock, 90's rock, jam rock, acid rock, rock operas, you get the idea.  Every now and then an artist from a genre I rarely listen to will blow me away.

A few years ago while watching Ally McBeal I was blown away by this cute geeky kid with an amazing voice.  Handy Man and I looked at each other and said he is going to be big!  

That cute geeky kid called Josh Groban has gone on to sell millions albums.  I am unashamed to say I have every one of his albums and a couple of his DVDs.  He may not sing my music of choice, but man can he sing and he has that certain something...

Here he is all growed up!

The other day I was driving without my ipod which meant I had to listen to the radio.  Since I wasn't in the mood for talk radio I was seriously channel surfing.  You know what I'm talking about right?!  Nope, not this song, commercial, HATE that song, this song has potential but let me see what's on the other stations first.  Please tell me I'm not the only one who treats the car radio like that?! 

This song started playing and all I could think was I have to share this on my blog.  It's a one hit wonder song from the 70's.  The time of my childhood.  I LOVE this song.  It brings a smile to my face, a very loud sing a long session and much satisfaction when it's over.

Ok, am I freaking out or was he cute?!!  Until I youtubed this song I had no idea what David Essex looked like.  Now this song has all new meaning to me, haha!

Fast forward 35 years!

Time marches on and now I feel old!

Pearl Jam Sunday

I completely forgot to post the last of the three part series The Love Bone Earth Affair yesterday for sing-a-long Saturday, so I'm posting it today.

The question going around Facebook this week was about the first concert you went to.  My first concert was David Cassidy.  My mom took me when I was around 9.  Our seats were way up high in the back of the arena and all I could see was a small speck that was David Cassidy.  But that one concert experience was all I needed to become hooked on live music.  There was so much excitement and energy in the air.  I LOVED it!

Yesterday, March 19th, marked the 20 anniversary of the death of Andrew Wood, lead singer of Mother Love Bone.  When I started this video series two weeks ago I didn't know this date was coming up.  Good timing on my part.

Last week I posted about my second favorite Seattle band, Brad.  They announced an upcoming show with special guests from a long ago Seattle band called Mother Love Bone.  For the hardcore Seattle music fan this is a huge deal.  I want to go so bad, but our current financial situation will not allow it.  There have been a buttload three shows I've wanted to go to since being laid off.  It's really sad. 

Pearl Jam was born after the tragic and untimely death of lead singer Andy Wood.  Guitarist Stone Gossard and bassist Jeff Ament, who were first members of a band called Green River, decided to move forward after Andy's death and went on to form Pearl Jam.

It's hard to say how big Mother Love Bone would have become, but I'm guessing they would have been pretty successful.  Andy Wood was a very charismatic lead man that drew people in.

This is the first of a three part series of a home video by Mother Love Bone called The Love Bone Earth Affair, which features live footage and interviews covering the bands formation to the eventual disbandment caused by the death of Andy Wood.

I'll be posting the series one part at a time over the next couple weeks.  The segments are a little long but I know there are a couple of you out there who will enjoy them.

From these 10 songs I'm featuring Brad.  They are a local band that's been around for years.  This week they announced they have a new album coming out sometime this year.  It's been many years since they put out a new album so I'm thrilled.  They also have a show coming up in April, but since we are saving every penny I won't be able to go, but I really wish I could! 

Most of the band members have other projects going on so they don't record or play as much as other bands.  One of those members is guitarist Stone Gossard who is also in a little band call Pearl Jam.  The lead singer, Shawn Smith has one of the most beautiful voices coming from a menacing physique.

They normally play in small clubs so it's always a treat to see them live.  I couldn't find a live performance video of Shinin' onYouTube , but I found a performance of another song called Screen.  It's not the best sound quality,  but at least you will be able to see Shawn Smith and a little of Stone.  From the Highline Ballroon in NYC, 10/16/07...

Sing-Along-Saturday

This week I've only been listening to Pearl Jam and Dave Matthews Band and since I already posted DMB last week and I do PJ on Sundays I thought I'd go a different direction today.

I was searching for a video of a My Morning Jacket song that's in the movie Elizabethtown.  What I found instead was a gem of a video/interview with Cameron Crowe about the music of the movie.

I've mentioned before how much I love Cameron Crowe.  I love every movie he's ever done and I'm waiting, very impatiently, for his upcoming Pearl Jam documentary.  

He marries music and movies in a way that always touches me and here's why...

This is where I share music (other than Pearl Jam) that's been in heavy rotation on my ipod.  Right now I'm in a huge Dave Matthews Band phase.  Can't believe I've never seen them in concert.  Handy Man and I are planning to change that and go see them this year at the Gorge on Labor Day weekend. 

This is one of my favorite Dave Matthews Band's songs.  Love, love, love it!!  I hope you enjoy it.
