Blogfest West - Or Fun With Snooty

Blog Fest West was renamed Fun with Snooty because, well, she's the only one who came!  The Baroness was scheduled to come but she got sick, antibiotic type sick, so she did not make the trek down from Canada.  Asthmagirl and I stuck to the plans we made when we were anticipating a larger crowd, picked up Snooty from the airport and headed to Burien.

The series of events went like this:

• Trip to the Burien Farmer's Market
• Lunch at the Pub
• Dinner on my patio
• Early to bed, late to rise before heading off to the Pike Place Market
• Boarded a WA State ferry bound for Harstine Island via Bremerton
• Arrived at one of the most beautiful places on earth!

For those who could not make the trip you really missed out on this part of our adventure!  AG's dad and step mom (Opa and Oma) live in a little corner of paradise!

Seriously the view from almost every window in the house looks like this!

And we got to spend the night at that lovely place, how lucky were we?!

Both Oma and Opa are master gardeners and it's reflected in their gorgeous yard.

The next post will be about our fabulous breakfast on Harstine Island and some words about Snooty!

 

Old Town

We loved Old Town so much we visited it twice!

There were cool things to see in Old Town, plants, artwork, buildings, every kind of shop you can imagine and restaurants galore!

Two of the best meals we ate were at Old Town.  The first was Mexican.  This was Handy Man's burrito...

The other meal was at Crazee Burger, which has been featured on the Food Network's Diner's, Drive-ins and Dives with Guy Fieri.  Best burger ever... Not to mention the onion rings. 

That was lunch and I ended up not eating any dinner.

When we go back to San Diego we are considering staying in Old Town!

Not So Wordless Wednesday

I want to thank everyone for their advice and words of encouragement about my veggie gardening post yesterday!  You all rock!

Today is the shared birthday of my grandpa and my brother, both deceased.  My grandpa would have been 102 and my brother 46.  My grandpa loved the spring.  He loved to garden and grew all kinds of veggies and flowers from seed.  His favorite flower was the Daffodil.  In honor of him and my brother I'm sharing some spring photos from my archives since my yard is only just starting to bud.

(Almost) Wordless Wednesday

Hopefully by the summer there will be a nice little water feature here with all kinds of interesting plants around it.  Maybe a fountain and river rock?  Maybe a little pond?  We have a lot of work ahead of us!

Blooming

There may not be many flowers blooming in my yard with all the rain and cool temps we've had, but inside there is a cactus blooming!

Staying Positive

Yesterday I wrote a ranting post about job hunting, I decided not to post it, in fact I deleted it.  Instead, for the sake of staying positive, I'm posting some pictures I took over a month ago.  A month ago, that's how long it's been since I've used my camera...

In the theme of staying positive and hopeful I give you Spring!

 

Speaking of Spring, I did something yesterday I haven't done in months.  I sat outside in the sun and read.  It was heavenly!  So much better than sitting in front of the computer.  Today is supposed to be another nice day and I think I'll do it again!

Fly Eating Plant

Handy Man found another one!  I posted a few months ago about Handy Man and his Venus Fly Trap.  Soon after that post that poor plant started going down hill fast.  It turned black and looked like it was going to die.  But as the weather got warmer Handy Man set it outside and basically forgot about it.  He showed it to me a few days ago and it's thriving again!

A few weeks ago he found another fly eating plant to experiment with.  Of course I HAD to take some pictures.

(Uhhhh, yeah... Please don't mind the dust, my house has been like a construction site lately, I can't keep up!)

 

It has these really dainty flowers on long stems.

The main plant has all this tiny drops of sticky stuff on the leaves.  That bugs stick to.  And hair.  It's kinda gross.

Pretty interesting, uh?!

More Dahlia Fun

I have Dahlias of various stages of bloom in my garden.  Let's take a tour.

Bellflower?

Remember when I shared photos of a pretty little white flower that was kind of shaped like a bell?...

Well, we planted this plant around the pond and now that it's bloomed I think they are related...

This is the Peach Leaved Bellflower.  The foliage is very similar on both plants.  The flowers are shaped the same except that the purple flowers are multi-pedaled while the white one is single.
