I want to thank everyone who wished me well on my follow up mammogram. I could feel all the good vibes coming my way, even as I was sitting in the waiting room for 30 minutes.
I was lucky enough to be sitting near two older ladies in the waiting room, half sisters I gathered from their conversation about health and from whom they got which health ailment. "Well, we don't really know about YOUR dad's family history, there might have been cancer in HIS family." "True, but you know, mother's family all had heart disease, everyone of them died of a heart attack, we need to be careful of that. AND all we really know about YOUR dad was HIS diabetes." "Very true."
They also talked about the following:
Survivor and how they can't figure out why that jerk Coach is still around.
Stopping by the store to do some shopping on the way home because they need "those meals for two".
Why it's taking so long to get called in for the "Xray".
How one of them has to go to the bathroom very badly, but refuses to leave her seat for fear of being called and missing her appointment.
I could go on and on... I was very happy to have the distraction of listening to their conversation. They were both very good natured and very sweet with each other. The one with the appointment was called in and I knew I would be next (through their conversation I found out we both had 2:30 appointments).
The follow up mammogram is much different than the regular one. I just have to come out and say, It hurt like a mother f***er! I had no idea a breast could have so much pain inflicted on it. Holy Crapoly. The technician told me they would just focus on the area of the breast where the unknown spot is, so it's a much smaller area they are looking at. Three major squishes later, I'm in shock from the pain and she tells me to go get dressed and wait in the chairs to talk to the doctor, if needed.
The last thing I wanted to do was put a bra on, but I did and waited. Apparently with all the new technology they can view the pictures then and there. The technician came back and said "Sweetie, you are good to go. The new digital camera picks up more than the old ones and you just have some density there. When we squish out the area the density disappears. So, I'll see you next year." Oh Joy!
Then I went home and played with my new lens.
