The "Basement Breakdown" at our house on Friday night was a huge success! All the furniture, tv, stereo speakers and Pearl Jam posters were moved out to make room for amps and other equipment.
We ordered some pizzas for the bands to have before the show, during soundcheck. Luckily they had soundcheck because there were some issues with the equipment that had to be taken care of.
The crowd of about 50 who showed up to rock out was not disappointed.
We might have gotten some water sprayed on the ceiling
and there might be a huge hole in the wall
But it was worth it! Seriously!
Kids danced moshed
and one kid even crowd surfed, which is a very brave thing to do in a basement.
There ended up being 7 "grown-ups" in attendance. Can you see a couple of us in the background?
First Inamorata played. I LOVE their music. I especially love the drummer, he is a cutie patootie. The base player is actually pretty cute too. Star Wars Son goes to school with those two. The guitar player is my favorite Trader Joes employee, and boy can he play!
Up next was Buried on the Shore, they are a great band too. Their lead singer is really charismatic and he really gets the crowd going. He also goes to school with SWS.
Then it was the first ever performance of Act of Bravery. They were nervous, but very excited to finally be playing for a crowd. SWS has some equipment issues but the other drummers loaned him some pieces parts and all was good.
We have known the bass player, Casey since he was 4 years old! You would never know that he had his tonsils taken out about 2 weeks ago! He wasn't allowed to sing back up yet.
Tyler has probably been the most nervous about performing in front of a crowd, but he really had no reason to be! He was amazing! Act of Bravery is lucky to have them as their front man!
I'm not sure how Roy ended up in the band, I think he knew Tyler... He's been in a band before, so he was used to performing.
The other guitar player, Skyler, answered an ad SWS put up, either on craigslist, or on myspace. He has been a great addition, really adding to the music writing.
As they were getting ready to perform their last song, SWS took the mic and said... "this is it, our last song, (disappointed sounds from the crowd) but I want to invite everyone to go to Denny's with us after the show (cheers). When the song was over Tyler thanked Handy Man and me... The crowd cheered and that was a really good feeling.
Here is the crowd gathering outside to head out to Denny's... (Handy Man took this through the upstairs window)
After the show was over, as I was walking up the stairs, I thought, "tonight we are the coolest parents in the world"! I really think this might be something we do again, with a little more wall protection and a "you must keep your feet on the ground" request. It was a total blast!
If you would like to see all the pics from the show I posted on Facebook, here is a link and while you're there request to be my friend if you are not already.
