I'm playing a request from the archives today, in fact this is an obscure song that was given to fans in 1993 as the fan club holiday vinyl gift. Yes, Pearl Jam gives away a 45 record to everyone in the fan club for a Christmas gift! They are always cool, usually with an odd song or rare performance. The art work on the sleeve is always interesting and sometimes done by one of the band members.
The 1993 single called Angel was inspired by a little book called The Eloping Angles: A Caprice written in 1893. There is an interesting 1994 article here that talks about the inspiration for the song (you have to scroll down, it's toward the end).
Lisa, this is for you! It's a 1992 Bridge School performance where then drummer for the band Dave Abbruzzese plays the guitar. Enjoy!
Growing up Christmas music was very big at my house. We started listening to my mom's collection soon after Thanksgiving. We listened to Bing Crosby, Nat King Cole, Wayne Newton, The Chipmunks, the list goes on. The one artist that spoke Christmas to me more than any other was Andy Williams! I still listen to a lot of Christmas music. I have more Christmas albums than I care to admit, but it's not truly the holiday season until I hear Andy.
On the way in to work on Wednesday a gorgeous sunrise developed right before my eyes. Once at work I called Handy Man, who had the day off, to point out the wonderful sky and hint that maybe he could take some pictures. This is one of the shots he took.

taught me over the last year, Thank You!
In the telling of my Pearl Jam story I mention the first Pearl Jam song that I truly heard and listened to. The song was Crazy Mary and it was my Aha! Pearl Jam moment. The song is actually a cover of a Victoria Williams song. Victoria Williams who is Lucinda Williams sister has MS. Pearl Jam contributed to a compilation album to raise money to help with her medical treatment and to raise awareness of MS.
My mom started taking me to concerts when I was around 8 years old. My very first concert was David Cassidy. She took me to see John Denver so many times I lost count. It was our
thing, to go see him every time he was in town. The last time he
played in Seattle she couldn't go, she was visiting my brother in
Alaska, so Handy Man went with me. He wasn't a fan, but he admitted it
was a great show. Shortly after that show John Denver died and I was
devastated. A mom and daughter tradition died when he did. Dancing
Daughter would have enjoyed his shows too.
This clip really shows his vocal ability. I'm really slowing it down this week, I hope you enjoy!
(Please send healing thoughts to my good friend Asthmagirl and her family. Her youngest daughter was hit my a truck yesterday morning and will possibly be undergoing surgery today. Any good energy sent her way will be very appreciated!)
