I've been living with my kitchen in a state of construction for a few weeks. Handy Man has been refinishing cabinets, ordering unfinished cabinets for a newly constructed area, ordering a gas cook top and an island hood fan.
The refinishing of the cabinets requires sanding... a lot of sanding.
This is what my kitchen looked like Sunday morning.
The cabinet below on the left of the stove has not been refinished. You can see that it's more brown than the cabinet on the right. We chose a cinnamon color that's not too different than the original color, just a little warmer. Handy Man is working on the above cabinets. He's even refinishing the shelves on the inside. Besides time this has been a very inexpensive way to spruce up the kitchen.
Where is all the stuff that was in those cupboards?
Nice huh?!
This is where the new cabinets will go. The hole in the wall is for the gas line hook up for the cook top that's going into the corner of the top area. I think Handy Man still has some wiring the wants to do too.
Here is what the finished cabinets look like.
In the next picture I tried to capture the color difference in the cabinets.
The cabinet on the right has not been done yet, while the other ones have.
Have I mentioned this work requires a lot of sanding?
Wow! Handy Man has been busy!
Are there new countertops in your future to match the new part of the kitchen?
And yes, we are on for next Thursday evening. Shelley is excited that we're taking her for pub food!

The only thing I miss about my old house is the gas stove! I can't wait to come visit you soon, so I can see all this in person.

You're so lucky to be married to a guy who can do that kind of thing. Mr. Snoots scares the hell out of me when he has power tools in his hands...
Your kitchen is going to be gorgeous, so tell hubby how wonderful he is. I like the look of the cabinets.
And, if that is the view from your patio, I'm moving in with you as soon as you say yes.
