Creating

Over 10 years ago I took a watercolor class.  It was fun, I learned a few things, mostly that I'm not very good at it.  But it was very enjoyable and I played around with it for a while.  I painted a few things, unfortunately since we moved I have no idea where they are, except for one piece I gave my brother as a gift.  My brother died a few years ago and my mom gave it back to me.  If When I find the other stuff I painted I'll share it with you, for now I'm going to show you a sampling of the new stuff I've done that does not involve painting.

I did a bunch of these years ago, but again have no idea where they are stored.  I might have even thrown them away.  A few weeks ago I was reading a post here and she shared some art work she did and a new thing she was trying called Zentangles.  I clicked on the Zentangle link and was surprised to see a style of doodling I had done years before.  I didn't know it had a name or was even considered art.  Seeing the work there inspired me to pick up a pen and start doodling again.

Here is the first thing I did this time around.  I started it at work on a scrap piece of paper.

I used pencil first then outlined it with a sharpie.  When I was done I erased all the pencil lines.

I was looking for a sketch pad to make more and I came across the painting I had done for my brother.  I decided to mess with it.  Here is the before shot.

Then I just kind of kept on going...

I did all of these with markers, including some scrapbooking metallic ones.  Mostly I do the outline first without really knowing what the shape is going to be then go from there.  Obviously a few of these I made to purposely look a certain way, ie. the sun ones and the very symmetrical one whose shapes I based off a hanging star lamp I have.

It's all for fun.  My family loves them and Dancing Daughter even made one of her own, she's using it in her school binder.

I love to listen to books on tape or even baseball while doodling.  It's really been theraputic for me.  It gets me out of my head for a while, which I've been needed.

Great job! It reminds me of those geometric shape coloring books from when I was little!
